Affiliated to Bengaluru City University, the college is highly regarded for its academic excellence and comprehensive approach towards the development of students.
Vijaya College, Jayanagar, formerly known as BHS First Grade College, was established in July 1989 under the BHS Higher Education Society. The idea conceived in 1988 materialized into the college in 1989 as BHS First Grade College. The initial phase was modest, starting with two PU sections (PCMB, PCMCs, and PCME) with 117 students and two Degree sections (one in Science and one in Commerce) with only 34 students. Currently, the college has over 2000 Degree students. In 2004, the management decided to focus exclusively on undergraduate courses, discontinuing the Pre-University courses and renaming the college to Vijaya College, Jayanagar.
The college provides courses in Arts, Science, Computer Science, Commerce, and Management domains, supported by modern infrastructure, state-of-the-art laboratories, a well-stocked library housing a diverse collection of books and journals, and amenities for sports and extracurricular pursuits.
Distinguished for its experienced faculty members who are experts in their fields, Vijaya College prioritizes industry exposure and practical learning opportunities for students through internships and workshops.
The college's motto, 'Excellence in Education,' is reflected in the academic and extracurricular achievements of its students. Starting humbly, the institution has steadily added value to education and purpose to its courses. Vijaya College offers approximately 12 courses across three faculties: Humanities, Commerce and Management, and Science. To align with modern demands, the college introduced courses like BBM and BCA. In 2003-2004, a Vocational course in BA with subjects like English Literature, Journalism, and Communicative English was added, followed by Kannada Literature, Journalism, and Sociology in 2013-14.
Emphasizing holistic development, the college hosts various activities. 'Anjali,' the cultural and literary forum, provides a platform for students to showcase their talents. 'Scientia,' a science and humanities forum, nurtures analytical skills and a scientific mindset. Vijaya College also upholds literature and Kannada writers' contributions through annual National Seminars, facilitating interaction among scholars and students from Bangalore and nearby areas.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) began in 1992-93 to instil a sense of social responsibility in students. The college also boasts a full-fledged NCC wing, with cadets representing Karnataka at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. Additionally, the college encourages sports, hosting an Inter-Collegiate cricket tournament annually.
In 2004, the Career Guidance and Placement Cell was established, aiding students in entering their desired fields. Campus Recruitment Training has led to successful placements in reputable organizations.
The college's success is measured not just by achievements but by the ongoing journey of its students across various domains.
"Success is only the journey not the destination."
