ABOUT THE SOCIETY







BHS Managing Committee was established in 1942 by a group of eminent educationists and philanthropists. It was registered as a non-profit body dedicated to the cause of education. Its primary concern was to focus on promoting education for young girls and boys in Bangalore.
The first step was taken in 1942 with the establishment of Bangalore High School in Visheswarapuram, Bangalore. In the years that rolled by the management decided to start Pre-university & Degree courses. Today 17 institutions funcation under the aegis of BHSHES.
In 1945 Vijaya College with Pre-University courses was established on R.V. Road, Basavanagudi, Bangalore. This institution was started under the Stewardship of the then President Late Rao Bahadur Prof. B. Venkateshchar, Rtd. Director of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and the dedicated efforts of the then Secretary late Dharmaprakasha L.S. Venkaji Rao, a prominent businessman, the Managing Committee started in 1955-75 saw the establishment of new Institutions. These institutions were to cater to the growing demands of the growing city Bangalore. The following Institutions were establishment during this period :

Between 1975 and 1990 the management constituted the infrastructure with adequate buildings, laboratory equipment and other facilities. The BHS Managing Committee took a leap forward in gearing its educational planning and experience in consonance with the National Education Policy in an endeavor to foster economic and social development. It was then that the managing committee transformed itself to form BHS Higher Education Society. A new era in its history was thus shared in, an era of adopting innovative programmes which could contribute to manpower requirements to the possible extent in its capacity.
The BHS Higher Education Society set itself to work by an object oriented approach, the highlights of which are

to meet the demands of diversified educational needs of the growing society.

to foster job-oriented training programmes.

to create opportunities in education for the average and below average students.

to encourage, training, research & publications in areas of educational interest.
The Society started BHS First Grade College in Jayanagar (New Vijaya College, Jayanagar) in 1989 offering Pre-University & Degree courses in Science, Commerce and Management Arts was added later.
In a bid to provide education to students from rural areas a Rural Educational Project was embarked upon in June 1990 with the starting of a High School at T. Narasipur, Mysore District. The Vijaya College Computer Training and Data Processing Centre was started offering short term certificate courses. A research team with eminent educationists in teacher training has engaged itself in producing training and research materials especially geared towards teacher training.
As a part of the diversification plan, Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies was established at Jayanagar in 1993 and is now housed in an independent building in the Basavanagudi Campus.
